Annual Heads of School Conference

January 25 - 26, 2007

Palmer House Hilton
17 East Monroe Street
Chicago, IL

A Time for Reflection

At this year's heads conference, we will spend more of our time together as a group, hearing about and discussing ideas that should stimulate new thinking and also provide opportunities to reflect on what we hear, discuss ideas and reactions, and share some social time together.

Thursday’s session with Dr. James McManus will explore the work of The Global Business Network. Jim, former head of two California independent schools, has recently been appointed as the new executive director of the California Association of Independent Schools. He is one of the clearest thinkers and committed researchers that I know. He will lead us through the work of the GBN, and we will have the opportunity to discuss some of the implications of this work in small group discussions.

Thursday afternoon we will have an opportunity to visit the Art Institute of Chicago for docent lead tours, and that evening we will gather for dinner (optional) at 312 Chicago, a landmark Chicago restaurant near the conference hotel.

Friday we will have sessions for experienced and prospective visiting team leaders, a full slate of conclaves led by members of our group and sessions on issues important to heads of schools.

After lunch we will conclude with a session by Scott E. Page, Professor of Complex Systems, Political Science and Economics at the University of Michigan. Scott will discuss his new book, “The Difference: How the Power of Diversity Creates Better Groups, Teams, Schools and Societies”. Scott changes the way we understand diversity –how to harness its untapped potential, how to understand and avoid its traps and how we can leverage our differences for the benefit of all. For more information on Scott E. Page, visit This is a closing session not to be missed!
