SCHEDULE
The conference will start at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 24th and end at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 25th.

COMING TOGETHER
At this year's heads conference, we will spend much of our time together as a group, hearing about and discussing ideas that should stimulate new thinking and also provide opportunities to reflect on what we hear, discuss ideas and reactions, and share some social time together.

Thursday’s main session will be with Jim Honan of the Education School and the Kennedy Center at Harvard (http://ksgfaculty.harvard.edu/james_honan) who will present "Strategic Leadership of Independent Schools - Planning and Governance Challenges and Opportunities."

A brief survey will be sent to registrants early in the new year asking each to identify key issues that Dr. Honan might address in his workshop, and we will, prior to the conference, distribute a case that we will work on during the session.

Late Thursday afternoon there will be four separate and distinct sessions: Visiting Team Leader 101, Michigan Heads of School Meeting, Marketing Strategies for Progressive Schools and Independent School Benefits Consortium.

There is an optional dinner for heads and spouses at 312 Chicago, a landmark Chicago restaurant.

Friday morning, Jim Steyer, CEO and founder of Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org) will share some ideas on how media is affecting our children and its impact on our students and thoughts on how we can help this generation of students become safe, smart and ethical media users.

We will also be joined by Gregory A. Dale, Ph.D., Professor of Sports Psychology and Sports Ethics, Duke University (www.excellenceinperformance.com/drdale). Dr. Dale will discuss strategies for helping parents maintain a proper perspective and play a crucial role in the experience their children have in sports.

At lunch we will be entertained by the very talented Jazz Combo from the Chicago Academy for the Arts.

Tom Hudnut, President and CEO at Harvard Westlake School in Los Angeles will close the conference with a look at leadership and the inextricable connection among three things --operational efficiency, educational content, and soul -- and how it's the Head's ability to reflect or embody all three that makes people want to invest (literally and emotionally) in a school.

RECEPTION AND DINNER - Thursday, January 24, 2008
All registrants and spouses/partners are invited to attend the official conference dinner at 312 Chicago Restaurant located at 136 North LaSalle (transportation will be provided from the Conrad Hilton Chicago).
