February 21 (Day One)-Peter Cobb
This academy will bring together those teachers who, by dint of disposition and hard work, are deeply regarded by colleagues and students for their contribution to the intellectual and humane environment of the schools within which they work. We also invite these exceptional colleagues to help us better understand how to recruit, train and sustain exceptional teachers in our midst. As a community of exceptional teachers, we will talk about how teachers find their way into this profession, how to manage the many demands of exceptional teaching in independent schools, and how to leave a legacy of vitality, care, and achievement that leaves students, colleagues and institutions enriched and enlivened.

February 22 (Day Two)-Rachel Poliner
What happens when you go back to your schools? How can you help to shape a collegial culture that will best sustain and enrich you and your practice as teachers? How can you help to promote a collegial culture that promotes vitality, care, and achievement? Day 2 of the Academy for Exceptional Teachers will focus on skills and strategies for shaping faculty cultures that are supportive, inquisitive, learning communities.

Dinner and Second City, Thursday, February 21, 2008
All registrants are invited to attend dinner at Adobo Grill followed by an evening of comedy at Second City.

It will be an opportunity to enjoy Chicago while mingling with your peers in a social setting. The cost of the event is included in the registration fee but pre-registration is required.
