It has become increasingly apparent that, in order to render multilingual a generation of native-born American youngsters, the language study sequence must be extended into the primary-elementary school.

What early language learning models are the most effective? How do we strengthen our existing models? How do we advocate for expansion of our existing programs in light of an already overcrowded lower school curriculum? How do we move our model into the middle and upper school divisions? What might a lower school World Language curriculum look like?

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Explore research on early foreign language learning that can strengthen and expand existing foreign language programs;

  • Learn how to structure an early language learning program;

  • Learn how to field questions from the public, teachers, administrators and others in order to strengthen and expand early language learning programs;

  • Be exposed to one system’s successful content-related primary-elementary model and curriculum;

  • Garner ideas for moving the content-related approach up the curriculum;

  • Laugh heartily and reflect profoundly.

    This workshop is for FLES teachers, administrators, parents, interested colleagues at all levels.
