Integrating High-level Thinking to Enhance Long-term Learning: Grades K-8

Tuesday, March 3, 2009
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Hotel Allegro
171 W. Randolph
Chicago, IL

Students of all ages and diverse backgrounds learn and retain information best when they are actively involved in higher levels of critical and creative thinking. The challenge is how to incorporate significant content and skills into creative learning opportunities for students. In this workshop, participants experience research-based applications that invite content complexity, increase student responsibility for learning, and integrate learning objectives and skills. The emphasis is on simple-to-implement strategies, graphic organizers, and tiered thinking prompts that minimize teacher preparation.

Presenter
Dr. Bertie Kingore is an international consultant and the author of twenty-two books, numerous articles, and instructional aids. She has received many honors including the Legacy Award as the Author of the 2005 Educator Book of the Year and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of North Texas where she earned her Ph.D. She was also the first recipient of the Texas Gifted Educator of the Year Award. Recognized for her humorous and practical presentations, she advocates learning experiences that encourage high-level responses and high achievement from students while minimizing the intensity of teacher preparation time.
