Developing Leadership Competencies for Deans and Department Chairs

Monday, December 8, 2008
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Hotel Monaco
225 N. Wabash

REGISTRATION UPDATE
**As of Thursday November 13, 2008, this workshop has reached capacity. Please call the ISACS office at (312) 255-1244 to be placed on the wait list.

Deans and department heads often have the responsibility for transforming ideas for a program or initiative into reality. However, they often need additional or more specific skills or knowledge to successfully execute those initiatives. This workshop is designed to be highly practical, with a focus on four key competencies you need to implement your (or someone else’s) special projects, whether a curriculum re-design or other school initiative.

Participants will be asked to come to the workshop with a project, idea or initiative that they want (or have been asked) to launch in their school. Using that real-world situation, we will carefully walk through how to set long and short term goals, prioritize action steps within those goals, design and facilitate meetings that align people with the project, and outline the critical steps for effective delegation including mechanisms for accountability. You can expect to leave the workshop confident that you know the steps to take your project from start to finish.

The workshop will consist of four 60-minute modules covering these competencies:
  • Setting goals
  • Setting priorities
  • Running effective meetings
  • Delegating work

The workshop design includes small group work, large group discussion and lecturettes. To get the most out of this program, participants need to come with a project in mind that they have recently launched, or plan to launch in the coming few months.
