2010 Academy for Division Heads

Registration is now open for the Academy for Division Heads.

The role of division head is one of the most complex in the school. Division heads are often required to learn as they go, with little formal training in the many roles they are required to play. The ISACS Academy for Division Heads is designed to meet the unique and ever-changing needs of division heads. The 2010 Academy will offer the following opportunities designed specifically to support division heads at all points in their careers:

  • an analysis of authentic leadership case studies facilitated by Pat Bassett, President of The National Association of Independent Schools
  • an overview of communication essentials presented by Patti Crane, president of Crane MetaMarketing Ltd.
  • an protocol to use colleagues as consultants in personal leadership dilemmas
  • an opportunity to share all aspects of best practices
  • time to reflect, relax, and refresh

Wednesday, February 3rd - Optional Panel Discussions
On Wednesday evening, February 3rd, from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, there will be two optional panel discussions:

  • "A Panel for New Division Heads" -- All new Division Heads are invited to a spirited conversation facilitated by a panel of experienced Division Heads anxious to share experience, perspective and expertise. Panelists will include: Bonnie Benes, The Prairie School; Nansee Greeley, Mounds Park Academy; David Hibbs, Morgan Park Academy and Amani Reed, University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
  • "Panel for Experienced Division Heads” – All experienced Division Heads are invited to an open discussion regarding the changing roles of Division Heads in our ISACS schools. Panelists will include: Jan Jacobi, MICDS (MO), Matt Virgil, City Academy (MO), Heidi Newman, Sayre School (KY) and Steve Hopkins, Hawken School (OH).

There is no additional fee for these optional discussions. Please select which panel discussion you are interested in attending during the online registration process. Pre-registration is required.

Thursday Evening, February, 4, 2010, Activity
Docent Tour of the Art Institute of Chicago and Dinner at Quartino’s. All registrants are invited to take a docent led tour at the Art Institute of Chicago followed by dinner at Quartino’s Restaurant. It will be an opportunity to enjoy Chicago while mingling with your peers in a social setting.
  • Art Institute Tour: 5:15 pm
  • Dinner at Quartino’s: 6:45 pm
  • Transportation will be provided to and from hotel to the Art Institute/Quartino’s. Transportation departs from the Hotel Monaco promptly at 4:45 pm.

All registrants are invited to attend this event; the cost of the tour and dinner is included in your registration fee for the Academy for Division Heads. If you plan to register a spouse/guest, please call the ISACS office at 312-255-1244 as there will be an additional charge.

This is an optional event; the price is included in your registration fee. Pre-registration is required. Registration deadline is Wednesday, January 20, 2010 or until the event reaches capacity. We appreciate your response so we can guarantee art institute tickets, dinner and transportation.

You may choose to attend the Art Institute and dinner, the Art Institute only OR the dinner only. Please select your choice of participation during the online registration process for the Academy.

Registration for the Art Tour is closed. However, if you would like to join us for dinner space is still available for the dinner.

The Academy for Division Heads will take place in Chicago at the Hotel Monaco, 225 North Wabash on the Third Floor.

Hotel Reservations - ** New hotel rate of $129/night
Attendees must make their own hotel reservations. ISACS has secured special discounted room rates at the Hotel Monaco: updated rate $129/night plus tax (single or double occupancy) for the nights of February 3-6, 2010. To make a reservation call 1-866-610-0081 and use Group Code: "ISACS Academy for Division Heads." Special discounted room rates have been extended and are available until Friday, January 15, 2010. Parking
Parking at the Hotel Monaco is $40 (valet) for overnight parking with full in-and-out privileges until 2 p.m. on your departure date. The Millenium Park garage is about 3 blocks from the hotel and may offer less expensive rates.

Registration Fee
  • $550 Members
  • $600 Non Member
  • 5% discount for schools sending teams of two or more
  • Registration fee includes 2 lunches and 2 continental breakfasts and evening activity on 2/4.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing to ISACS by emailing programinfo@isacs.org 10 business days prior to the event to receive a 50% refund. Cancellations received within 10 days of the event will not receive a refund. Registration may be transferred to another member from the same school. ISACS reserves the right to cancel the Academy for insufficient enrollment. In this case, participants will be notified and given a full refund.
