Seven Secrets of The Savvy Leader

Thursday, October 8, 2009
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Hotel Monaco
225 N. Wabash
Chicago, IL

  • A day for new administrators and leaders in new administrative positions

Is leadership a set of skills to learn and apply, or a set of commitments to proclaim and model? Machiavelli and the Myers-Briggs, or Lincoln and Ghandi? Many school leaders, especially those new to leadership or in new roles, try to do the best of both; it's a heavy burden. Rob Evans will outline seven essentials of successful leadership that simplify the challenges, make the job more doable, and promote a better balance between work and life.

Robert Evans, Ed.D. is a long-time friend of ISACS, having spoken at many of our conferences and visited many of our schools. He is a clinical and organizational psychologist and the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Mass. A former high school and pre-school teacher, and a former child and family therapist, he has consulted to 1,200 schools and districts around the country, working with teachers, administrators, boards, and parents. His presentations are known for their lively wit and plain talk. He is the author of many articles and two books: Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing and The Human Side of School Change. His new book, The Seven Secrets of The Savvy School Leader, will appear in early 2010.

An Invitation to New Division Heads in ISACS Schools
On the night before the new administrators' workshop with Rob Evans, the ISACS Administrative Services Committee invites you to a session from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. facilitated by several experienced ISACS division heads. A similar session for new division heads was held prior to the Academy for Division Heads last February, which was highly successful. The format is relaxed and informal--it's an open and candid discussion among colleagues. All questions are welcome....from how do you deal with fourth graders who can't get along, to keeping morale high, to planning for division meetings. New division heads need a network of ISACS colleagues to help them deal with the stresses of the job. This is the perfect opportunity to start building that network. We look forward to seeing you on the evening of October 7. There is no additional fee for this session; registration is required and light refreshments will be served.

The workshop will take place in Chicago at the Hotel Monaco, 225 North Wabash on the Third Floor.
