Reducing Underage Drinking and Teen Drug Use in Independent Schools
Jeff Wolfsberg, Jeff Wolfsberg and Associates, Inc - Drug Education Specialists Monday, January 10, 2011 10:00 am - 3:00 pm Hotel Allegro 171 West Randolph Street Chicago, IL 60601 ![]() Statistics reveal that independent schools are far from immune from the destructive effects of substances by teens. Research shows that public school students start using substances earlier than their independent school peers, but by high school, many independent school students exceed public schools students in their use of alcohol and other drugs and mental health problems. Colleges cite alcohol, other drug use, and mental health issues as the top three issues affecting student retention and achievement. How does this impact our idea of what “College Prep” means? In this interactive and discussion-based workshop, you will learn best practices in school-based alcohol and other drug programming, what other independent schools are doing successfully, and how to bridge the gap between theory and practical application. Specific areas to be addressed:
