Join your colleagues for a one day workshop with two well-versed experts in the finances of independent schools. Spend the morning with Mike Flanagan of NAIS who will address current data and trends related to financial aid and then engage with Sarah Daignault, former Executive Director of the National Business Officers Association, who will be sharing specific strategies to navigate the economic challenges faced by our ISACS schools.

Affordable Schools: Strategic Issues in Managing Financial Aid with Mike Flanagan, NAIS

Managing the effective use of financial aid dollars to achieve the imperative of access and opportunity while balancing the budget through affordability and stewardship is an increasingly difficult task. Join your colleagues for a facilitated discussion about key trends, demographic projections, and new ways of managing financial aid for strong enrollment and revenue.

Participants will receive a summary report with financial aid data and trends for ISACS schools.

Independent School Education: Is it a Luxury or a Necessity? With Sarah Daignault

To thrive in the midst of today’s economic challenges and social changes, independent schools must understand and effectively navigate the relationship between the product we offer and our customers willingness (and ability) to pay for it. This session will offer fresh perspectives and insights in the financial issues schools must face as well as exploring ways to undertake the necessary strategic conversation among school leaders.

Mike Flanagan, CEO, NAIS's Services Division, including School and Student Services (SSS by NAIS) Mike Flanagan joined NAIS in November 2009. In his role, Mike is responsible for managing and growing SSS By NAIS, and is accountable for all aspects of SSS operations and service delivery. After graduating from Yale, Mike spent three years as a faculty member at Iolani school, but for the past decade was the COO at Intrepid Learning Solutions, a $30M technology and business process outsourcing firm that he co-founded.

Sarah Daignault is an instructor at the Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. She is the former Executive Director of the National Business Officers Association (NBOA), an association dedicated to serving independent school business officer by providing professional development and information on independent schools finance and operations. Prior to founding NBOA, Sarah spent five years as the Business Officer at Friends School of Baltimore and four years as the Business Manager at Bryn Mawr School for Girls. During her 19 year tenure on the board of directors of the Madeira School in Virginia, Sarah was the President of the board for eight years. She also chaired the capital campaign for five years. She serves on the boards of the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) and the Association of Independent School Admission Professionals (AISAP). She has also served on the board of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) as well as three other independent schools.

The workshop will take place in Chicago at the Hotel Allegro, 171 West Randolph Street. The Hotel Allegro is located in the heart of downtown Chicago in the busy theatre district in close proximity to the Art Institute and Navy Pier. It is also just minutes from Grant Park, Millennium Park, Lincoln Park and Chicago's beautiful lakefront that stretches for miles.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing to ISACS by emailing 10 business days prior to the event to receive a 50% refund. Cancellations received within 10 days of the event will not receive a refund. Registration may be transferred to another member from the same school. ISACS reserves the right to cancel the workshop for insufficient enrollment. In this case, participants will be notified and given a full refund.
