The Academy starts at 9:00 am on Tuesday, June 23 and ends at 3:30 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Please plan to attend the Academy in its entirety.

Who Should Attend
Heads of Independent Schools *

(* For those administrators who are not currently heads of school but are interested in attending the Leadership Academy, please call the ISACS office at 312-750-1190 to be put on a waitlist. If space allows, ISACS will open the Leadership Academy on April 1, 2015 to non-heads and will honor the partial scholarships for schools with assets of less than $12 million.)

Why Attend
The ISACS Leadership Academy is designed to broaden and deepen business education of school heads. We hope it will encourage participants to pursue additional training at Kellogg or other convenient business schools.

ISACS is proud to offer a partnership with the Kellogg's Center for Nonprofit Management at Northwestern University and the E.E. Ford Foundation to provide this unique executive education opportunity emphasizing important competencies often given insufficient emphasis in professional development programs for heads. The Academy is a unique opportunity to develop heads' leadership skills to more effectively lead a school..

  • Negotiations with J. Keith Murnighan
    Receive formal training in a subject that is critical to building relationships and reaching satisfactory outcomes. Learn to negotiate agreements, resolve disputes, and make decisions that are best for both the participants and the school.
  • The Art of the Ask: Major Gift Solicitation with Leo Latz
    The most effective and efficient way to raise money from individuals is through personal, face-to-face solicitation. Yet many independent schools spend most of their efforts on direct mail, special events, e-solicitations or telemarketing. And in today’s “new normal”, the personal approach is more important than ever. Learn the fundamentals and processes of a successful major gift solicitation strategy and strategies for engaging Board members in major gifts.
  • Finance for Educational Leaders; Understanding and Using Financial Statements with Marian Powers
    Improve your understanding of the entire financial picture of your school by learning to better understand financial statements, spot financial trends, identify areas of cost containment and predict the implications of your management decisions.
  • The Customer-Focused School with Julie Hennessy 
    Learn best practices of marketing strategy and how they can be applied to independent schools. Topics include market segmentation, target selection, and focused campaigns. This session will have implications for fundraising as well as admissions.​
  • Brand: From Tagline to Competitive Advantage with Aleen Bayard 
    While consumer brands may be easier to market, independent schools have the same opportunity to differentiate themselves in order to attract “customers” and develop brand loyalty. The session will touch upon marketing strategy, but will not get into details about marketing plans or specific tactics.

The Academy will take place at the Kellogg Center for Nonprofit Management at Northwestern University, Wieboldt Hall in downtown Chicago.

ISACS has secured a block of discounted rooms at the following hotel, which is less than 2 blocks walking distance from the Leadership Academy location at Northwestern's Wielboldt Hall. We recommend making your reservations early!

Parking at the Mile North
The current overnight parking rates are $62.00 for valet. The hotel does not offer a self-parking option.

Parking
Kellogg will be providing participants with additional details on parking options - both daily and overnight -  via email as the Academy approaches, which are much more economical. 

Airport Express (Share-a-Ride) Shuttle Service
For shared-ride shuttle services to or from O’Hare or Midway, call 1-888-284-3826 or visit www.airportexpress.com.  The rate for O’Hare is approximately $27 one-way; $49 round-trip.  The rate for Midway is approximately $22 one-way; $39 round-trip. GO Airport Express
A special rate has been negotiated on your behalf for GO Airport Express. Reservations MUST be made online to receive the discounted rate.  Walk-ups will not be eligible for convention rate, standard rates will apply. Please click here to go to their website and begin your reservation to reserve a seat. It will provide a 15% discount. Credit cards are required and charged at the time of reservation. 

Registration Fee

  • $2250 - ISACS Member Fee
  • $2500 - Non Member Fee
  • Academy includes: Three breakfasts, three lunches, one reception and one dinner.

We recommend registering early as we anticipate reaching capacity for the 2015 Leadership Academy.

Partial Scholarships Available
Thanks to a grant from E.E. Ford Foundation, schools with assets of less than $12 million can receive partial scholarships. To determine your school's assets, see the Statement of Financial Position from your most recent audit and find "Year-End Total Net Assets." These scholarships are available for member and non- members schools.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing to ISACS by emailing programinfo@isacs.org 10 business days prior to the event to receive a 50% refund. Cancellations received within 10 days of the event will not receive a refund. Registration may be transferred to another member from the same school. ISACS reserves the right to cancel the workshop for insufficient enrollment. In this case, participants will be notified and given a full refund.
