Just Added! Building for Change: 21st Century Library Facilities & Collections
Shannon Acedo & Liz Gray Tuesday, October 7, 2014 9:30 am - 3:00 pm ISACS Office Conference Room Chicago, IL JUST ADDED!
Due to high interest, ISACS is offering a second opportunity to attend the "Building for Change: 21st Century Library Facilities & Collections" workshop for librarians on Tuesday, October 7.
Register today!
Change is the name of the game in the 21st century library. In order to preserve, promote and enhance the role of the library in a school, librarians have to develop a model for incorporating change into the way they build and manage both facilities and collections. School libraries provide a physical space that is critical for teaching, research, production, community and reflection, and a collection of resources in multiple formats to support these activities. In this hands-on workshop, librarians Liz Gray and Shannon Acedo will guide participants through a process for making necessary changes in their libraries and provide them with tools and resources that they can use in the future. Participants should bring a laptop or tablet, a floor plan of their library with dimensions (hand-drawn is fine if no blueprint exists), and ideas for the kinds of changes they would like to make to move their program forward. Learning Goals:
Presenters Liz Gray is a librarian and a writer who consults with independent schools on library space planning, renovation, and staff and program evaluation. She has 36 years of experience at independent schools in Massachusetts, Switzerland, Italy and England. Most recently, she was the library director at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA. Before that she directed the libraries at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in Waltham, MA and St. Stephen's School in Rome, Italy, and (in her previous life as an English teacher) taught at The American School in Switzerland and TASIS England. She has a BA in English from Reed College, an MA in English Education from Tufts University, and an MLS from Simmons College. She tweets @carpelibro and can be contacted at liz.dunbar.gray@gmail.com
