New Heads Network - June 13 and June 14, 2016

On Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14 as part of the New Heads Network, please join your colleagues for a two day program at New City School, St. Louis, MO. Preregistration for this event was required as part of the New Heads Network. Click here for the New Heads Network brochure.

This event is part of a year-long opportunity and support system for new heads of school. Events take place:

  • Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Chicago, IL
  • Monday, June 13-Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in St. Louis, MO

Registration for the 2015-16 New Heads Network will open in late spring. Brochures will be sent to new heads at ISACS schools in early July. The New Heads Network brochure will be posted shortly.

New Heads Network Faculty
Thomas Hoerr,
PhD is the emeritus head of the New City School in St. Louis, MO, and just retired after 34 years leading the school. Previously he worked as a teacher and principal, and led The Washington University program in non-profit management. Hoerr is the author of four books: School Leadership for the Future (NAIS Press), and Becoming A Multiple Intelligences School, The Art of School Leadership, and Fostering Grit (all published by ASCD Press). He has written over 100 articles and writes the “Principal Connection” column in Educational Leadership. He is working on a new book on non-cognitive skills. Tom has led the ISACS New Heads Network for five years and is a member of the ISACS Board of Directors. He facilitates the ASCD Multiple Intelligences Professional Interest Community, and teaches in the New Leaders principal preparation program at UM-St. Louis. Tom is an enthusiastic, but poor, basketball player.

Claudia Daggett, MSEd joined ISACS as its president In 2014. She began her independent school career as a teacher at The Prairie School and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including 11 years as head of school at Friends Academy in Massachusetts. Following her departure from headship in 2006, Claudia has served as executive director of the Elementary School Heads Association and independent consultant with Gregory Floyd & Associates. She has been a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences on the top of independent school leadership.

  • Sharing of first year experiences among the group
  • Sessions on the headship, business officers, development and board relations
  • Planning for the future

Meals
On Monday, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. On Tuesday, breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Tom and Claudia will gather for dinner on Sunday evening for an informal dinner for those who are in already in St. Louis (at your own expense).

ISACS has secured a discounted room rate of $153/night at the Chase Park Plaza – Saint Louis.  To make a reservation, please call 1-877-587-2427 or 1-314-633-3000 and request the “Independent Schools Association of the Central States” room block in order to receive the discounted rate. The discounted rate will be available until Thursday, Monday, May 19, 2016. Rooms are available the nights of Sunday, June 12 and Monday, June 13.

A special rate has been negotiated on your behalf.  Reservations MUST be made online to receive the discounted rate before 11:59pm, June 6th, 2016.  Walk-ups will not be eligible for convention rate, standard rates will apply.  Please click here to go to our website and begin your reservation to reserve a seat.  The discounted convention rate of $16 each way, per person is offered.  Credit cards are required and charged at the time of reservation.
