New Heads Network - June 12-June 13, 2017

On Monday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 13 as part of the New Heads Network, please join your colleagues for a two-day program at New City School, St. Louis, MO. Pre-registration for this event is required as part of the 2016-17 New Heads Network.

 This is a year-long opportunity and support system for new heads of school. Events will take place:

  • Monday, September 19, 2016 in Chicago, IL
  • Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Chicago, IL
  • Monday, June 12 - Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in St. Louis, MO

New Heads Network Faculty
Thomas Hoerr, PhD is the emeritus head of the New City School in St. Louis, MO, and retired after 34 years leading the school. Previously he worked as a teacher and principal and led The Washington University program in non-profit management. He is the author of four books: School Leadership for the Future, Becoming A Multiple Intelligences School, The Art of School Leadership, and Fostering Grit. His newest book is The Formative 5: Fostering Grit, Empathy, and Other Success Skills Every Student Needs and will be published in November. He has written over 100 articles and writes the “Principal Connection” column in Educational Leadership. Tom has led the ISACS New Heads Network for six years and served on the ISACS Board of Directors. He facilitates the ASCD Multiple Intelligences Professional Interest Community and teaches in the New Leaders principal preparation program at UM-St. Louis. Tom is an enthusiastic, but poor, basketball player.

Claudia Daggett, MSEd joined ISACS as president in 2014. She began her independent school career as a teacher at The Prairie School and has served in a variety of leadership roles including 11 years as head of school at Friends Academy (MA). Following her departure from headship in 2006, Claudia served as executive director of the Elementary School Heads Association and independent school consultant with Gregory Floyd & Associates. She serves on the board of the National Network of Schools in Partnership and the Independent School Association Network (ISANet) and is a member of the NAIS Commission on Accreditation. She is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences on the topics of independent school leadership, governance, and school civic engagement.

Claudia and Tom will provide experienced advice throughout the year while the group provides the beginnings of the peer network important to every head.

Time: 9:30 am start on Monday, June 12 & 1:00 pm end on Tuesday, June 13

  • Sharing of first year experiences among the group
  • Sessions on the headship, business office, development and board relations
  • Planning for the future

On Monday, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. On Tuesday, breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Tom and Claudia will arrange an informal dinner on Sunday evening for those who are already in St. Louis.

Self-parking at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel for overnight ISACS guests is complimentary and included in your room rate.  You can use your guest key to enter/exit the garage, and you will have in/out privileges during your stay.

Registration Fee
A new head must be registered for the entire New Heads Network to attend the June 12 and 13, 2017 program.
