Teaching Quiet Kids: Creating Temperament-Inclusive Classrooms
Heidi Kasevich

Friday, March 3, 2017
9:30 am - 3:00 pm

ISACS Classroom
Chicago, IL

Both introverted and extroverted children benefit from a robust learning experience. Yet too often, introverts – who comprise nearly half of every classroom - are asked to act like their extroverted peers, who are more likely to enjoy group work, crowded cafeterias, and classroom discussions.

In an enlightening and interactive workshop, Heidi Kasevich, PhD, shows us that introverted children possess gifts that enhance the culture of any classroom.  We will also explore the power of dynamic duos and mixed teams, as well as the communication differences that so often keep introverts and extroverts from bringing out the best in each other.  The ultimate goal?  To empower introverts and extroverts alike to work together to unleash the creative potential of everyone at the table.

Drawing on Susan Cain’s original research, in addition to the work of Quiet Revolution’s Advisory Board (including Amy Cuddy, Adam Grant, and Scott Barry Kaufman), Dr. Kasevich covers a wide range of topics:

  • cutting-edge research about the ways in which personality styles shape how we communicate and make decisions
  • strategies for creating temperament-inclusive classrooms, including “time to think, deep listening, and mixed teams
  • techniques for nurturing quiet strengths and broadening definitions of leadership

This workshop is designed for middle and upper school teachers, administrators, counselors, deans, and advisors.

As Educational Director at Quiet Revolution, Heidi Kasevich, PhD, runs the Quiet Schools Network, a nationwide program that focuses on guiding school communities to cultivate inclusive cultures where all temperaments can thrive.  The creator of Quiet pedagogy, she gives lectures and workshops on quiet leadership and temperament inclusivity at schools and universities across the country.  Kasevich is also the author of the Guide to Giving, a highly acclaimed philanthropy curriculum, and founder of Closing the Gap, a sought-after leadership curriculum for aspiring women leaders.  Her proficiency is grounded in 25 years of experience as an educator at Nightingale-Bamford, where she also served as history department chair, Dalton, Berkeley-Carroll, NYU and Cooper Union.  Committed to expanding students’ perspectives, Kasevich has served as Director of Académie de Paris, an Oxbridge Academic Program. A gcLi Alumna Scholar, she received her BA from Haverford and her MA and PhD from New York University.
