Barbara Braham and Dave Mochel

Monday, July 30, 2018 9:30 am - Tuesday, July 31, 2018 2:00 pm

ISACS Classroom
Chicago, IL

Join Administrative Assistants from the ISACS region for a two-day workshop dedicated to supporting you in the unique and pivotal role you play at your school.

The workshop will begin at 9:30 am on Monday, July 30 and will end at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 31.

Barbara Braham, PhD is an executive coach and organizational development consultant, who works with leaders who want to move their organizations forward, and with individuals who want to realize their potential.  A member of the International Coach Federation, she has earned their highest designation, Master Certified Coach.

Day One: Managing Up: Skills for Success, Barbara Braham, PhD
Day One: 9:30 am - 3:45 pm

This experiential workshop is designed to guide you through how to build and maintain an effective relationship with your boss. You will learn techniques that can lead to less stress, more ease and greater productivity as you work with your boss. We’ll cover communication skills, goal setting, what behaviors to avoid, and what you can do if you have a difficult boss. There will be opportunities to practice new skills and to have conversations with others.

Participants will be able to:

  • follow a process to gain alignment with their boss around goals and priorities
  • name and practice the speech acts with a partner
  • apply the OAR Model to be more effective in getting desired results
  • identify five behaviors that bosses DON’T want to see
  • list behaviors that make for a happy boss
  • describe their options for how to deal with a difficult boss

Dave Mochel is the founder of Applied Attention Consulting, a mindfulness consulting company that partners with businesses, schools, and individuals to bridge the gap between what matters most and how time and energy are used. The goal is to teach people how to consistently refocus on what is present, what is important, and what is effective. This simple and powerful practice builds the fundamental skills necessary to embrace challenge, learn from others, and thrive in any circumstance. The result for individuals is greater engagement, flexibility, and resilience. Within teams and organizations, this practice creates powerfully positive and purposeful cultures.

Day Two: Finding Peace and Clarity in Chaos, Dave Mochel
Day Two: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm

As an administrative assistant, there are demands and distractions at every turn. People are constantly looking to you for answers and solutions. While you are often at the heart of the action, there are also many moving parts that are outside your control.

We will address:

  • proven practices for accessing calm and connection in the midst of a busy life
  • concrete strategies for communicating assertively and compassionately in challenging situations
  • tools for working fluidly rather than frantically

There will also be an opportunity for sharing, networking and learning from each other. It is our hope that each participant will leave with more tools and resources to manage an increasingly complex job at the school.
