School Description:

The Roeper School is an educational community devoted to understanding and serving the needs of gifted and creative children. Founded in 1941 by Annemarie and George Roeper, the school enrolls 550 students from pre-k through grade 12 on two campuses. Over $1.3 million per year is committed to scholarship and financial aid from an $11 million operating budget. Students live in the greater Detroit metropolitan area, representing 60 communities in southeast Michigan as well as a variety of ethnic, religious, racial and economic backgrounds. The Upper School of 300 students in grades 9 – 12 is housed with the Middle School and is located on the Birmingham Campus. The Lower School of 250 students in grades pre-K-5 is located on the Bloomfield Hills Campus.

The Roeper School offers a unique opportunity for its students. The humanistic values of Roeper’s founders continue to be the driving force behind the school. At the very heart of Roeper’s program is the strong relationship which exists between student and teacher: genuinely caring, mutually respectful, collaborative and personalized. Teachers, administrators and students are on a first-name basis, and an easy camaraderie throughout halls and classrooms produces an intimate style unique to this unusual academic community. Roeper is a place where the ideas and feelings of students are centrally important to the adults in their lives. The result is an environment in which students are free to take educational risks and participate in decision-making - and where personal commitments to learning are the norm.
