Gilmour Academy is a pre-K through grade 12, independent, Catholic, coeducational college-preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross. Founded in 1946, Gilmour offers programs for boys and girls in kindergarten through twelfth grade as well as a Montessori Preschool Program and an Early Beginnings Program for children 18 months to 3 years. A boarding program, which attracts students from around the world, is available for students in grade 7-12. Located on 144 scenic acres in Gates Mills, Ohio, Gilmour helps each child discover his or her voice through an educational program committed to educating both the mind and heart. Gilmour's mission is to develop in all students "the competence to see and the courage to act in creating a more humane and just society". Gilmour is chartered by the State of Ohio and is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central Stares (ISACS), and The American Montessori Society. Gilmour Academy has an enrollment of 716 students, 192 of which are in the lower school (grades pre-K through 6), 80 of which are in the middle school (grades 7 and 8), and 444 of which are in the upper school (grades 9-12).
