Founded by Mrs. Jean K. Garvey in 1980, The Independent School is a private, independent, co-ed day school for students entering pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.  The school has maintained a mission to focus on growth of the whole student.  At every level, students arrive from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds to be embraced and accepted into our family-like atmosphere.  Leading each student to perform at his/her greatest potential are highly educated, caring faculty and staff, who are overtly passionate about education.  As a community, every member takes responsibility to prepare our students to be self-confident, responsible, creative thinkers who are prepared for college and life beyond the classroom.  Leadership, empathy for others, and global awareness are all important aspects to The Independent School education.  Included within our program, is a comprehensive extracurricular program that flourishes as students are encouraged and provided opportunities to expand his/her interests and talents, whether he/she is on athletic or academic teams, behind or on the stage, through creative mediums, or via their written voice.  Located in Wichita, Kansas, in the heart of the nation, The Independent School offers a college preparatory curriculum that is rigorous, emphasizing time management, diligent work ethics, and integrity in a safe, supportive community of learners.
